My WLE was a very fun place because I got to work with different variety of people, I thought it was amazing working with the seniors because they only elder that I really sat down and communicated with was my great grandmother. This experience will affect my future decision on what i want to major in because it gave me the chance too see what it is like to work with elders. I can see if there is something i can do with them.  One of the things i can do when working with seniors is being a theripist. I think that will be interesting. I can also work in a facility like my internship because it has to do with kids and seniors. I loved my internship and would not mind letting others come and see what it is like. This is something that I will offer others to do next years for there senior WLE.

Today I set all the materials up for the seniors. I spoke and talked with them. I also played pool with one of my Co-Workers. Not only that but I had to present my WLE project. I was very scared and nervous because this is something that is important. If im not to pass this I will not be graduating Summer 2012. As an intern i have improved by actually completing work and doing something with my time rather than just sitting there not doing anything. I have also improved by staying in contact and always being on time to my WLE even when there are days that I do not want to come. I still make my way here because i know that this is something serious. Something about my workplace that makes it special is always having working with people that are kind to you. I also love working with the seniors because they are so sweet and i always look forward into seeing them on the days that I come. Those are things that make my workk

In order to get my WLE i had to fill out a application. Yes an application as if i was getting a real job. I was going to have to do an interview but i kept calling and asking if i was going to be able to intern there. I was still waiting for there response the night before my first day of WLE and they called and told me i can intern. The most effective way for looking for a job is by calling around asking do they need anyone. If they respond yes you should go in and see what there is that you should do in order to get the job. Once you have done what is expected you should call there phone everyday. It will annoy them but also show them that you really is looking foward to working at there place. Being professional means to keep a positive attitude never be rude to your peers and also completing the job without back talking to the person that is in charge of you.

Something that I have learned about myself at my woking place is that I am a very productive person and always check in with my mentor when I  am finished with an assignment that she had giving. A challenge that I have faced is waiting for my mentor to get to the work place. I have learned that there are a lot of people who have been through a lot such as the seniors and you can still enjoy life no matter how old you are. I had to make necklaces with students today and that is an great talent that I have showed with creativity. My WLE has made me look at my elders in a more passionate way because they are loving people and such sweethearts <3. I will tell a person that my WLE is important because it not only provides for young children but also elders.

The leadership skills that I am using at my WLE is communicate effectively. The way i use this leadership skill is by always asking my mentor if there is something that needs to be completed or if i am not understanding a task that she askes me to do. I believe i am using this leadership skill to the best of my ability but i can use it a little better. The way i can use it better is by always asking questions because there are times when i am not doing anything and i will just sit there when i should be talking to my mentor asking questions and seeing if there something that she needs help with. I have also used the leadership skill complete projects effectively because when i first came to my WLE we had to do a hunted house and that required so much work. It was very stressful "/ and i kind of wanted to stop because everything had to be perfect or else it would get snatched down and i would have to do it all over again. These leadership skills help me a lot because it shows me what i am doing good at and what i need to improve on. The leadership skills my mentor uses are Communicate effectively, Colaborate productively ( I also use that leadership skill because i am working with Chezarae and we sometimes have to do things together) she also use manage time effectively. She uses these leadership skills not only because she is our mentor but because she has colligues that are working with her and she has to stay positive at all times.

So today Tess came and visited me at my WLE. She was not able to really stay for that long because my mentor was very busy. I showed Tess around the community center and showed her where things were located. I helped with the seniors and Tess also got to see how how the lil ol' ladies groove :)). I also removed stapples off of the wall. My fingers HURTTT :'((( >:O !!! I really wanted to give up and say "You know what i QUIT" and storm out, but i did not i completed what was asked to be done. Nida also came in and i told her what i wanted to do for my project. I have not started on anything yet because i have to raise money for paint. I looked online though and a gallon of paint from Walmart cost 35.00$$ i am not sure if that is the cheapest. I got to sit down and actually have a long convo with Nida and Cheryl also chezarae because he is working at my internship with me. I believe in myself though and i am going to stick with this project. I know first things first i will have to chip all of the old paint off of the wall and then start painting. I love designing things and this is something that i will be designing because its me painting something on my own. Not to mention its going to be done how i want it to be done. I have FAITH do you? Welp im gone for the day tahtah now :-**** ...

For my WLE project i am thinking about painting the art room over and also organizing the materials. The way i came up with this idea is because after i started to take down the material that was up for the haunted house i noticed that there was a lot of stapples in the wall. Once i started to remove the stapples i realized how HORRIBLE the wall started to look. I want that to be a change and make the room look decent how every thing else inside of the community center looks. I am unsure of what color i want the room to be  but i have to make it fit for young ladies and young men. This is going to be hard because i have to come up with an idea on my own on how i am going to get the paint and how i am going to pay for it. I was told that i can do a fundraiser but the thing is i can not do a fundraiser at my WLE (this is going to be very STRESSFUL). So for now i am coming up with ways that i can come up with money, what colors i want the room to be and also whos going to help me paint the room. The room is pretty big so i will definetly need help with it. I am also going to ask my Academic seminar teacher (Tess) if there is a way that she can help me complete my project with brainstorming certain things.

My title is a "lil mentor" :). On a daily basis I usually work on the Haunted House which was for Halloween >:o ! It was very scary and it took a while for the completion to be done. No lie it was very stressful because everything had to be perfect and if it was not , hmm best believe it had to come down. I really wanted to scream at the top of my lungs a few times but I didnt I just completed what was asked for me for complete. A regular day is interesting because you are working with older people (seniors) and always completing work. When I first came to my WLE, the actual first day my fingers were HURTING i swear i thought they were going to fall the heck off.

My mentor is a woman whos name is Cheryl. Cheryl has been working in the parks field for over 23 years. She has worked in San Leandro, Castro Valley and also Hayward California. Her typical day is very busy. She never have a break, she is either working with senior or students. She works at the main desk but also has her own office inside of the art room. She always picks up the phone (Hi Matt Jiminez Community Center) LOL :). The way she became interested in the field is because she was already comfortable at what she was doing.

The name of my WLE is Matt Jimenez community center which is located in Hayward California. The community center is a large building which has a Library, Game room, computer room and also a large kitchen. It also holds a gym that sometimes has basketball games. Im not actually sure on the amount of employees that work at the boys and girls club because there are certain people who comes at different hours of the day. My work place employ all kinds of people there is different types of nationality in this work place which is very interesting because you get to meet new people :). My mentor whos name is Cheryl has a four year college degree but im unsure of what college she has attended (im going to look into that). My workplace serves Seniors which are older people who comes in the morning to learn several things but also exercise and eat lunch (it is very funny because they love too play pool) & the ladies know how too dance there behinds off :D. The community center is also a after school program for kids to come and complete there homework but also have fun. A strength here is that is it a enjoyable place if someone was to come visit they will most definetly want to come back. A weakness (hmm?) i dont think there is any. I am in love with my WLE :))).
